Despite the fact that Destiny 2’s PvP needs fixing, I do still enjoy the Crucible. I certainly wish I had more control over what match types I play. I would love it if we did not have to deal with so many players dropping out. Those gripes do fade away for moments when you get into a really good PvP match. If you want to dominate, here are the best subclasses of each class to use in the Crucible.
Hunter – Gunslinger
In Destiny 1, I probably used Nightstalker most often in PvP when playing as a Hunter. The super ability was more effective in 6v6 matches because you were more likely to catch a group of several players. In the 3v3 player modes, Gunslinger was the go-to choice. The same goes for Destiny 2. In the new 4v4 modes, it is a lot more rare that you will be able to catch more than 1 player in your Nightstalker snare, which puts Gunslinger as the best choice for PvP in Destiny 2.
It’s not just the super ability that makes Gunslinger the best choice. Incendiary, Swarm, and Tripmine grenades are great for locking down hallways and narrow passageways. The Way of the Sharpshooter class tree is ideal for a Hunter in the Crucible. A headshot kill with Knife-Juggler instantly recharges the ability. Practice Makes Perfect recharges your super faster with each precision kill. Combine that with the current Crucible meta kinetic weapon of MIDA Multi-Tool, and it is easy to take advantage of this perk.
Just do not run Celestial Nighthawk in Crucible. That makes your golden gun more powerful, but you only get one shot.
Warlock – Stormcaller
For me, Voidwalker was the best choice in Destiny 1. I combined it with the Obsidian Mind helmet, which made the Nova Bomb charge faster with each Nova Bomb kill. WIth Obsidian Mind, orb pickups recharged your grenades faster. Combine that with Soul Rip and Embrace the Void, which would cause grenade kills to charge your super faster, and you had a synergistic super charging machine great for PvP or PvE.
We do not have anything like Obsidian Mind or the skill selections to create the same kind of effect in Destiny 2. That has pushed Stormcaller to the forefront in the Crucible.
Storm grenade is really the only choice as far as grenades go. It’s not an overly strong grenade, but it is effective in halls and narrow passages to cut-off enemies or direct them to take another path.
Use the Transcendence skill, and when you cast Stormcaller with full grenade and melee energy, it lasts longer. It’s like Cialis for Warlocks. It will also restore your health.
Stormcaller is a great super if you are trying to overtake an objective and the defenders are fairly close together to defend it. It also is great if you can corner 2 or 3 of them in a room.
The challenge with your super is being sure not to cast it at range. If you cannot close the distance quickly, you will be picked off. It’s still better than Voidwalker or Dawnblade.
Titan – Striker
Not only is the Striker the best subclass for Titans in PvP. Striker is the best subclass for the Crucible, period. The Striker super provides the Titan with a speed boost, making closing the distance and slamming multiple opponents easier. If you use the Code of the Juggernaut skill tree, you can extend the super’s length as long as you sprint, and have a self-healing perk with melee kills.
You can‘t really go wrong with any of the grenade choices. The Pulse grenade does significant damage and can temporarily lock down a passageway. Lightning grenade is probably your best single target damage dealer. The third option is flashbangs. They do not get used much and I think are underappreciated. The ability to blind an opponent and open them up for punishment with Destiny 2’s longer time-to-kill is a valuable ability.
Combine all of this with the Titan’s barricade ability and it really is a PvP powerhouse. I know a lot of people like Rally Barricade for the instant reloads, but to me Towering Barricade is the better choice.
While the instant reload is nice, you can still be shot behind Rally Barricade. Towering Barricade lets you completely block off a section. This is great for defense or during something like trying to defuse a bomb in Countdown. If you get really good at timing it, you can also use it to eat up an opponent’s super. I’ve used it to take 2 shots from a Golden Gun or absorb a Nova Bomb.
Now Go Forth And Conquer
These are the best subclasses to use in the Crucible for each class. See you at The Third Spire.
